Diagnostic Test
- 1) GOOD TRIP INDICATED NOTE: Verify battery voltage is greater than 9 volts.
Turn the ignition on.
Record Freeze Frame Data that was set by the related DTC before continuing.
With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Does the Good Trip Indicator display NO?
Yes
- Go To 2).
No
- Refer to the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
- 2) TEST FOR VOLTAGE AT STOP LAMP SWITCH CONNECTOR
Turn the ignition on.
With a 12-volt test light connected to ground, back probe the (B15) circuit at the Stop Lamp Switch harness connector.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes
- Replace the Stop Lamp Switch.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
No
- Go To 3).
- 3) (B15) SECONDARY BRAKE SWITCH/BRAKE LAMP SWITCH CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the PCM harness connector.
Disconnect the Stop Lamp Switch Harness connector.
Test for continuity between (B15) Secondary Brake Switch harness connector and ground.
Is there continuity?
Yes
Repair the short to ground in the (B15) Secondary Brake Switch/Brake Lamp Signal circuit.
No
- Go To 4).
- 4) (B15) SECONDARY BRAKE SWITCH/BRAKE LAMP SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT CONTINUITY

Test for continuity on circuit B15 between the Stop Lamp Switch harness connector and the PCM harness connector.
Is there continuity?
Yes
- Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the Service Information. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - PCM/ECM/SKREEM PROGRAMMING) .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
NOTE: Before Continuing: Check the PCM harness connector and the related wiring terminals for corrosion, damage or terminal push out. Repair as necessary.No
- Repair the open in the (B15) Secondary Brake Switch/Brake Lamp Signal circuit.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
