Diagnostic Test

  1. 1)  POWER STEERING PRESSURE SWITCH OPERATION 

    Turn the ignition off.

    Disconnect the Power Steering Pressure Switch harness connector.

    Turn the ignition on.

    With the scan tool, monitor the Power Steering Pressure Switch.

    Using a jumper wire, connect one end to the Power Steering Pressure Switch Signal circuit.

    With the other end of the jumper tap the ground circuit in the Power Steering Pressure Switch harness connector.

    Does the Power Steering Pressure Switch display change from HI to LOW? 

    Yes 

    1. Replace the Power Steering Pressure Switch
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

    No 

    1. Go To  2).
  2. 2)  (Z902) GROUND CIRCUIT

    Turn the ignition off.

    Disconnect Power Steering Pressure Switch harness connector.

    Using a 12-volt test light connected to 12-volts, probe the (Z902) ground circuit in the Power Steering Pressure Switch harness connector.

    Does the test light illuminate? 

    Yes 

    1. Go To  3).

    No 

    1. Repair the open in the (Z902) ground circuit.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
  3. 3)  (K66) POWER STEERING PRESSURE SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO GROUND

    Turn the ignition off.

    Disconnect the Power Steering Pressure Switch harness connector.

    Disconnect the PCM harness connector.

    Measure the resistance between ground and the (K66) Power Steering Pressure Switch Signal circuit in the PSP Switch harness.

    Is the resistance below 100 ohms? 

    Yes 

    1. Repair the short to ground in the (K66) Power Steering Pressure Signal circuit.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

    No 

    1. Go To  4).
  4. 4)  (K66) POWER STEERING PRESSURE SWITCH SENSE CIRCUIT OPEN 

    Turn the ignition off.

    Disconnect the Power Steering Pressure Switch harness connector.

    Disconnect the PCM harness connector.

    Measure the resistance of the (K66) Power Steering Pressure Switch Signal circuit between the PSP Switch harness connector and the PCM harness connector.

    Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? 

    Yes 

    1. Go To  5).

    No 

    1. Repair the open in the (K66) Power Steering Pressure Signal circuit.
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
  5. 5)  PCM 
    NOTE: Before Continuing: Disconnect the PCM harness connector and check the related wiring terminals for corrosion, damage or terminal push out. Repair as necessary.

    Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wire harness and connectors. Pay particular attention to all Power and Ground circuits.

    If there are no possible causes remaining, view repair. 

    Repair 

    1. Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the Service Information. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - PCM/ECM/SKREEM PROGRAMMING) .
    2. Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
