Diagnostic Tests
- 1)
TP SENSOR VOLTAGE ABOVE 4.5 VOLTS
Start the engine.
With the scan tool, read the TP Sensor No.1 voltage.
Is the voltage above 4.5 volts?
Yes
- Go To 2).
No
- Go To 8).
- 2)
(K22) TP SENSOR SIGNAL NO.1 CIRCUIT SHORTED TO (F855) 5 VOLT SUPPLY CIRCUIT

Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the ETC Assembly harness connector.
Disconnect the PCM harness connector.
Measure the resistance between the (K22) TP Sensor Signal No.1 circuit and the (F855) 5 Volt Supply circuit in the ETC Assembly harness connector.
Is the resistance below 100 ohms?
Yes
- Repair the (K22) Throttle Position Sensor Signal No.1 circuit for a short to the (F855) 5 Volt Supply circuit.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
No
- Go To 3).
- 3)
(K22) TP SENSOR SIGNAL N0.1 CIRCUIT SHORTED TO BATTERY VOLTAGE
Turn the ignition on.
Measure the voltage of the (K22) TP Sensor Signal No.1 circuit in the ETC Assembly harness connector.
Is the voltage above 5.2 volts?
Yes
- Repair the (K22) Throttle Position Sensor Signal No.1 circuit for a short to battery voltage.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
No
- Go To 4).
- 4)
TP SENSOR INTERNAL FAILURE
Turn the ignition off.
Reconnect the PCM harness connector.
Connect a jumper wire between the (K22) TP Sensor Signal No.1 circuit and the (K922) TP Sensor Ground circuit in the ETC Assembly harness connector.
Turn the ignition on.
With the scan tool, monitor the TP Sensor No.1 voltage.
Is the voltage below 0.5 volt?
Yes
- Replace the ETC Assembly.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
No
- Go To 5).
- 5)
(K922) SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN
Turn the ignition off.
Disconnect the PCM harness connector.
Measure the resistance of the (K922) TP Sensor Ground circuit.
Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms?
Yes
- Go To 6).
No
- Repair the open in the (K922) Throttle Position Sensor Ground circuit.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

(K22) TP SENSOR SIGNAL NO.1 CIRCUIT OPEN
Measure the resistance of the (K22) TP Sensor Signal No.1 circuit.
Is the resistance below 5 ohms?
Yes
- Go To 7).
No
- Repair the (K22) Throttle Position Sensor Signal No.1 circuit for an open.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

PCM TP SENSOR SIGNAL N0.1 CIRCUIT NOTE: Before Continuing: Disconnect the PCM harness connector and check the related wiring terminals for corrosion, damage or terminal push out. Repair as necessary.
Using the schematics as a guide, inspect the wire harness and connectors. Pay particular attention to all Power and Ground circuits.
If there are no possible causes remaining, view repair.
Repair
- Replace and program the Powertrain Control Module in accordance with the Service Information. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - PCM/ECM/SKREEM PROGRAMMING) .
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .

THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR SWEEP
Turn the ignition on.
With the scan tool, use the ETC System Test to open and close the throttle. Fully open and fully close the throttle several times.
Monitor the Throttle Position Sensor No.1 Input voltage.
Is the voltage change smooth as the throttle opens and closes?
Yes
- Refer to the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
No
- Replace the ETC Assembly.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. (Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE - POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST) .
