2.4L DOHC Engine: Manifold-Exhaust: Removal
NOTE:
The exhaust manifold on Turbocharged equipped vehicles is serviced as an assembly with the Turbocharger. (Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM/TURBOCHARGER SYSTEM/TURBOCHARGER - REMOVAL)

- Remove clean air hose (1) and air cleaner housing (2).
- Disconnect negative cable from battery.
- Disconnect throttle and speed control cables from the throttle lever and bracket.
1 - MAP SENSOR - Disconnect MAP sensor (1) electrical connector.
1 - POWER STEERING FLUID RESERVOIR 2 - RETAINING TAB - Remove fasteners securing power steering fluid reservoir (1) to cylinder head.
- Remove coolant recovery container (Refer to COOLING/ENGINE/COOLANT RECOVERY CONTAINER - REMOVAL)

1 - BOLTS - Remove bolts (1) attaching upper heat shield. See Fig 5.
- Remove upper heat shield.
- Raise vehicle.
1 - GASKET 2 - CATALYTIC CONVERTER 3 - NUT - Disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold. See Fig 6.
1 - HEAT SHIELD 2 - NUT 3 - NUT - Remove engine wiring heat shield (1). See Fig 7.
- Remove manifold support bracket. See Fig 8.
1 - UPPER HEAT SHIELD 2 - LOWER HEAT SHIELD - Remove lower exhaust manifold heat shield (2). See Fig 9.
- Disconnect oxygen sensor electrical connector.
- Remove exhaust manifold lower retaining fasteners. See Fig 10.
- Lower vehicle and remove the upper exhaust manifold retaining fasteners.
- Remove exhaust manifold from above/between the engine and cowl panel.
- Remove and discard manifold gasket.
