1.6L SOHC Engine: Crankshaft: Installation
1 - UPPER CRANKSHAFT MAIN BEARINGS
2 - THRUST BEARING
3 - LOWER CRANKSHAFT MAIN BEARINGS
- Install the upper main bearing shells (1) with the lubrication groove in the cylinder block. See Fig 1.
- Make certain oil holes in block line up with oil hole in bearings and bearing tabs seat in the block tab slots.
- Install lower main bearings (3) into main bearing cap/bed plate. Make certain the bearing tabs are seated into the bed plate slots.
CAUTION: Do Not get oil on the bed plate mating surface. It will affect the ability of the sealer to seal the bed plate to cylinder block.
- Oil the bearings and journals and install crankshaft in cylinder block.CAUTION: Use only the specified anaerobic sealer on the bed plate or damage may occur to the engine.
- Apply 1.5-2.0 mm (0.059-0.078 in.) bead of Mopar® Bed Plate Sealant to bed plate as shown. See Fig 2.
- Install the main bearing/bed plate onto engine block.
- Before installing the main bearing cap/bed plate bolts, oil threads with clean engine oil, wipe off any excess oil.
- Install and finger tighten the main bearing cap bolts.
- Install and finger tighten the bed plate bolts.
- Snug the three bed plate bolts at the dowel locations (bolts 11, 17, and 20) to bring the bed plate down to the block. See Fig 3.
- Snug the remaining main bearing cap/bed plate bolts.
- Torque the main bearing cap/bed plate bolts to the sequence shown to the following torque: See Fig 3.
- Main Bearing Cap Bolts 61 N.m (45 ft. lbs.)
- Bed plate Bolts 30 N.m (22 ft. lbs.)
- After the main bearing bed plate is installed, check the crankshaft turning torque. The turning torque should not exceed 6 N.m (53 in. lbs.).
1 - FASTENERS 2 - OIL PUMP PICK-UP 3 - O-RING - Check crankshaft end play (Refer to ENGINE - SPECIFICATIONS) .
- Install connecting rod bearings and caps. Install new connecting rod bolts and tighten to 26 N.m (19 ft. lbs.) plus 1/4 turn.
- Install oil pick-up tube (2).
- Install the oil pan (Refer to ENGINE/LUBRICATION/OIL PAN - INSTALLATION) .
