Folding Top Assembly: Removal

NOTE: The entire folding top assembly should never be adjusted at its mounting points. The folding top has been fixture set to correlate with the location of the side glass. This service information describes the process to replace the folding by locating the new folding top in the same position as the part requiring replacement.
  1. Begin with the folding top in the raised position.
  2. Remove the rear seat cushion. (Refer to BODY/SEATS/SEAT CUSHION - REMOVAL) .
  3. Remove the interior quarter trim panels. (Refer to BODY/INTERIOR/QUARTER PANEL TRIM - REMOVAL) .
  4. Remove the rear seat back. (Refer to BODY/SEATS/SEAT BACK - REMOVAL) .
  5. Remove the well liner. See Fig 1 and Fig 2.

  6. Remove the hydraulic pump cover. See Fig 3.
  7. Remove 2 nuts at the hydraulic pump assembly. See Fig 4.
  8. Remove 6 push-in clips (3/side) on the hydraulic hoses and wire harness. See Fig 5.

  9. Detach the water trough from the folding top floating bow. See Fig 6.
  10. Lower the folding top into the stowed position.
  11. Disconnect the wire harness from the main body harness at the left side support bracket (between the main pivot bracket and the rear seat back support)

  12. Remove the support brackets. See Fig 7.
  13. Remove the exterior belt molding. See Fig 8 and Fig 9.
  14. Find 3 bolts attaching each main pivot bracket to the vehicle body but do not remove the bolts at this time.
  15. Remove one bolt from the main pivot bracket and mark the position of the main pivot bracket hole to the body (paint, a marker or a scribe are suggested). See Fig 10.
  16. Replace the bolt and snug until later.

  17. Remove the main pivot bracket attaching bolts. See Fig 11.
  18. Remove the folding top assembly from the vehicle.
