Test 7A: Left Curtain Squib Short To Ground

NOTE:
Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST after all repairs unless otherwise directed.

- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRBIII, determine if LEFT CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND is active or stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If LEFT CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND is an active DTC, go to next step. If LEFT CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND is a stored DTC, go to TEST 1B: REPAIRING STORED CODES .
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access left curtain air bag and disconnect harness connector. See CURTAIN (HEAD IMPACT) AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool to left curtain air bag harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Using DRBIII, read DTCs. If DRBIII displays LEFT CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step. If DRBIII does not display LEFT CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND, replace left curtain air bag module.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) and disconnect harness connector. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool adapter to ORC harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and left curtain air bag line 1 circuit (Light Blue/Orange wire) on harness side of left curtain air bag connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Measure resistance between ground and left curtain air bag line 2 circuit (Light Blue/Brown wire) on harness side of curtain air bag connector. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms in both circuits, replace ORC. If resistance is less than one 10 k/ohms in either circuit, repair short to ground in appropriate circuit.
