Test 42A: Passenger Squib 2 Circuit Short To Battery
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE:
Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRBIII, determine if PASSENGER SQUIB 2 CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY is active or stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If PASSENGER SQUIB 2 CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY is an active DTC, go to next step. If PASSENGER SQUIB 2 CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY is a stored DTC, go to TEST 1B: REPAIRING STORED CODES .
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access passenger-side air bag module and disconnect harness connector. See DUAL-STAGE PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool to passenger-side air bag module harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. On DRBIII, read active DTCs. If DRBIII displays PASSENGER SQUIB 2 CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step. If DRBIII does not display PASSENGER SQUIB 2 CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY, replace passenger-side air bag module.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) connector. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool adapter to harness side of ORC connector. Remove load tool from passenger-side air bag harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Measure voltage between ground and passenger-side air bag module connector terminal No. 3 (Orange/Yellow wire, line 1 circuit). See Figure. Measure voltage between ground and passenger-side air bag module connector terminal No. 4 (Tan/Yellow wire, line 2 circuit). If voltage is not present, replace ORC. If voltage is present, repair short to battery in appropriate wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
