Test 2A: Loss Of Ignition Run Only

NOTE: Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST  after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
  1. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRBIII, determine if LOSS OF IGNITION RUN ONLY is an active or stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If LOSS OF IGNITION RUN ONLY is an active DTC, go to next step. If LOSS OF IGNITION RUN ONLY is a stored DTC, go to TEST 1B: REPAIRING STORED CODES .
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Remove and inspect air bag system ignition run fuse No. 16. See Fig 1. If fuse is bad, go to next step. If fuse is good, go to step  5.
  3. Remove air bag system ignition run fuse No. 16. Measure resistance between ground and air bag system side of fuse No. 16 cavity. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, replace defective fuse No. 16.
  4. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) and disconnect harness connector. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between ground and ORC connector terminal No. 24 (Dark Blue/Yellow wire). See Fig 2. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Dark Blue/Yellow wire and replace fuse No. 16. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, replace ORC.
  5. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Measure voltage between ground and battery side of fuse No. 16 cavity. If voltage is more than 6 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 6 volts, repair open in ignition run circuit between battery and fuse holder.
  6. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) and disconnect harness connector. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Install air bag system ignition run fuse No. 16. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Measure voltage between ground and harness side of ORC connector terminal No. 24. (Dark Blue/Yellow wire). See Fig 2. If voltage is less than 6 volts, repair open or high resistance in Dark Blue/Yellow wire. If voltage is more than 6 volts, replace ORC.
