Test 26A: No Left-Side Impact Sensor 1 Communication

NOTE:
Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRBIII, determine if NO LEFT-SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 1 COMMUNICATION is active or stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If NO LEFT-SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 1 COMMUNICATION is an active DTC, go to next step. If NO LEFT-SIDE IMPACT SENSOR 1 COMMUNICATION is a stored DTC, go to TEST 1B: REPAIRING STORED CODES .
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access left-side impact sensor and disconnect harness connector. See SIDE IMPACT SENSOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Access Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) and disconnect harness connector. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Measure voltage in Light Green/Brown wire between ground and harness side of left-side impact sensor connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Measure voltage in Light Green/Tan wire between ground and harness side of left-side impact sensor connector. If voltage is present in either circuit, repair short to battery in appropriate wire. If voltage is not present in both circuits, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Wait at least 2 minutes. Measure resistance in Light Green/Tan wire between ground and harness side of left-side impact sensor connector. If resistance is less than 100 k/ohms, repair Light Green/Tan wire for short to ground. If resistance is more than 100 k/ohms, go to next step.
- Measure resistance between Light Green/Tan wire and Light Green/Brown wire on harness side of left-side impact sensor connector. If resistance is less than 100 k/ohms, repair short between Light Green/Tan and Light Green/Brown wires. If resistance is more than 100 k/ohms, go to next step.
- Connect appropriate SRS load tool adapter to ORC harness connector. Measure resistance in Light Green/Brown wire between harness side of left-side impact sensor connector and ORC load tool adapter. If resistance is less than one ohm, go to next step. If resistance is more than one ohm, repair open or high resistance in Light Green/Brown wire.
- Measure resistance in Light Green/Tan wire between harness side of left-side impact sensor connector and ORC load tool adapter. If resistance is less than one ohm, go to next step. If resistance is more than one ohm, repair open or high resistance in Light Green/Tan wire.
- Replace left-side impact sensor. See SIDE IMPACT SENSOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect left-side impact sensor harness connector to left-side impact sensor. Remove any special tools and jumper wires, and reconnect any previously disconnected components, except battery. Using DRBIII, erase all DTCs. Turn ignition switch to OFF position and wait at least 15 seconds. Turn ignition switch to ON position and wait at least one minute. Using DRBIII, read DTCs. If DRBIII displays LEFT-SIDE IMPACT SENSOR INTERNAL 1 as an active DTC, replace Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC). See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If DRBIII does not display LEFT-SIDE IMPACT SENSOR INTERNAL 1 as an active DTC, repair is complete.
