Test 14A: Driver SBT Circuit Open
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE:
Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRBIII, determine if DRIVER SBT CIRCUIT OPEN is active or stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If DRIVER SBT CIRCUIT OPEN is an active DTC, go to next step. If DRIVER SBT CIRCUIT OPEN is a stored DTC, go to TEST 1B: REPAIRING STORED CODES .
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access driver-side seat belt pretensioner and disconnect harness connector. See SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool to driver-side seat belt pretensioner harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. On DRBIII, read active DTCs. If DRBIII displays DRIVER SBT CIRCUIT OPEN, go to next step. If DRBIII does not display DRIVER SBT CIRCUIT OPEN, replace driver-side seat belt pretensioner.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) connector. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool adapter to harness side of ORC connector. Remove load tool from driver-side seat belt pretensioner harness connector. Measure resistance in driver-side seat belt pretensioner line 1 circuit (Light Green/Dark Green wire) between load tool adapter and pretensioner connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Measure resistance in driver-side seat belt pretensioner line 2 circuit (Light Green/Yellow wire) between load tool adapter and pretensioner connector. If resistance is less than one ohm in both circuits, replace ORC. If resistance is more than one ohm in either circuit, repair open or high resistance in appropriate wire.
