Test 11A: Right Curtain Squib Short To Ground

NOTE:
Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST after all repairs unless otherwise directed.

- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRBIII, determine if RIGHT CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND is active or stored Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). If RIGHT CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND is an active DTC, go to next step. If RIGHT CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND is a stored DTC, go to TEST 1B: REPAIRING STORED CODES .
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access right curtain air bag and disconnect harness connector. See CURTAIN (HEAD IMPACT) AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool to right curtain air bag harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Using DRBIII, read DTCs. If DRBIII displays RIGHT CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step. If DRBIII does not display RIGHT CURTAIN SQUIB CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND, replace right curtain air bag module.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access Occupant Restraint Controller (ORC) and disconnect harness connector. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect appropriate SRS load tool adapter to ORC harness connector. Measure resistance between ground and right curtain air bag line 1 circuit (Light Blue/Yellow wire) on harness side of right curtain air bag connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Measure resistance between ground and right curtain air bag line 2 circuit (Light Blue/White wire) on harness side of curtain air bag connector. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms in both circuits, replace ORC. If resistance is less than one 10 k/ohms in either circuit, repair short to ground in appropriate circuit.
