Installation (With ABS)
- Lubricate 6 shoe contact areas on support plate and anchor using Mopar(R) Brake Lubricant, or equivalent. See Fig 1
.
- Before installing shoes on vehicle, assemble the drum brake shoe assembly. Place one leading and one trailing shoe on the bench (trailing shoe has parking brake lever attached to it). Install adjuster and upper spring. See Figure
. Slide lever pawl under adjuster and onto pivot on leading shoe. Install adjuster spring between leading shoe and lever pawl. See Figure
.
- Install pre-assembled brake shoe assembly over wheel cylinder and anchor on brake support plate. See Figure
.
- Install both shoe hold-down pins from rear, through support plate and shoes. See Fig 1
.
- Compress and install shoe hold-down spring clips on pins. See Figure
.
- Install lower return spring. See Figure
.
- Compress parking brake cable return spring, then install cable on parking brake lever. See Fig 2
. Release spring guiding it beneath retaining tab on lever.
- Slide hub and bearing onto spindle. See Figure
. Install and tighten retaining nut. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
.
- Install hub and bearing dust cap. See Figure
.
- Adjust drum brake shoes. See REAR BRAKE SHOES
under ADJUSTMENTS.
- Install brake drum. See Figure
.
- Install both tire and wheel assemblies. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
.
- Slowly rotate wheels and verify that brake drums lightly drag on shoes.
- Lower vehicle.
- Road test vehicle stopping in both forward and reverse directions. Automatic-adjuster will continue to adjust brake as necessary during road test.
