Support Plate: Installation
- Apply a bead of fresh Mopar(R) RTV sealer or equivalent around the mating surface of the wheel cylinder and brake support plate.
- Install the wheel cylinder onto brake support plate. Tighten the attaching bolts. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Install the brake support plate and seal on spindle. Tighten the support plate mounting bolts. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Insert the parking brake cable into its mounting hole in the brake support plate. Push the cable housing in until the retainer's fingers lock into place.
- Hand start the brake flex hose tube fitting to the wheel cylinder. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Attach the parking brake cable to the parking brake actuator.
- Install the rear brake shoe assemblies on the brake support plate. See DRUM BRAKE SHOES .
- Install the rear hub and bearing assembly on the spindle. Install a new hub and bearing retaining nut. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Adjust the brake shoes. See REAR BRAKE SHOES under ADJUSTMENTS.
- Install the brake drum.
- Install the wheel and tire assembly. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the brake pedal holding tool.
- Bleed the brake system as necessary. See BLEEDING PROCEDURES under BRAKE SYSTEM BLEEDING.
- Road test the vehicle to ensure proper brake operation.
NOTE:
Once sealer is applied, install the wheel cylinder within several minutes to avoid excessive hardening of the sealer before installation.
NOTE:
When installing wheel cylinder on brake support plate, be sure it is positioned squarely (horizontal) to the brake support plate.
NOTE:
When performing the following step, use new mounting bolts or clean and apply Mopar(R) Stud & Grinding Mount Adhesive or equivalent to the original mounting bolt threads before reuse.
