A/C Expansion Valve: Removal

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the system. See RECOVERY, EVACUATION & RECHARGING in GENERAL SERVICING PROCEDURES article in GENERAL SERVICING. Remove the engine air inlet tube and the air distribution duct on vehicles equipped with 3.2L and 3.5L engine.
  2. Remove one nut to the A/C lines at the expansion valve. Loosen the bolt at the receiver/drier to pivot the lines away from the expansion valve. Plug or cap the open end of the refrigerant lines.
  3. Gently pull the A/C line out of the expansion valve. Remove 2 #30 Torx bolts retaining the expansion valve to the A/C evaporator. Remove the expansion valve from the vehicle.
