Underdrive Clutch Pressure Test

  1. Remove pressure tap plug and install pressure gauge in underdrive clutch pressure tap. See Figure.
  2. Place gearshift lever in "3" position. Allowing front wheels to rotate, accelerate until vehicle speed indicates 30 MPH. Transaxle should be in second gear.
  3. Underdrive clutch pressure should be 110-145 psi (7.7-10.1 kg/cm2 ). This pressure test checks underdrive clutch hydraulic circuit and shift schedule.
  4. Place gearshift lever in "OD" position. Allowing front wheels to rotate, accelerate until vehicle speed indicates 40 MPH. Transaxle should be in Overdrive.
  5. Underdrive clutch pressure should be less than 5 psi (.35 kg/cm2 ). This pressure test checks underdrive clutch hydraulic circuit and shift schedule. Remove pressure gauge. Install and tighten pressure tap plug to 53 INCH lbs. (6.0 N.m).
