Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Intrepid, 2002 Chrysler Intrepid, 2002 Chrysler Concorde, and 2002 Chrysler 300M. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect PCM harness connector C1. See Figure. Measure voltage between ground and fused B+ circuit at PCM harness connector C1 terminal No. 29 using Miller Special Tool (8815). If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or greater, go to step  4.
  2. Disconnect PCM harness connector C4. Using test light connected to positive battery source, probe all ground circuits at PCM harness connector C4 terminals No. 12, 13 and 14 using Miller Special Tool (8815). If test light illuminates brightly at all terminals, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate brightly at all terminals, repair open or high resistance in ground circuits.
  3. Using test light connected to ground, probe fused B+ circuit at PCM harness connector C1 terminal No. 29. If test light illuminates brightly, test is complete. If test light does not illuminate brightly, repair open circuit. If fuse is open, ensure to check for short to ground or high resistance in circuit.
  4. If battery has been replaced, lost it's charge or been disconnected, this is the cause of DTC. Erase DTC and return vehicle to customer. If battery has not been replaced, lost it's charge or been disconnected, go to next step.
  5. If a quick learn procedure has been performed, this is the cause of DTC. Erase DTC and return vehicle to customer. If a quick learn procedure has not been performed, go to next step.
  6. If PCM has been replaced or disconnected, this is the cause of DTC. Erase DTC and return vehicle to customer. If PCM has not been replaced or disconnected, go to next step.
  7. Conditions necessary to set DTC are not present at this time. Using wiring diagram as a guide, inspect wiring and connectors associated with circuits in question. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Wiggle wires while checking for shorted and open circuits. Repair as necessary. If circuits are okay, testing is complete.
