Diagnostic Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Intrepid, 2002 Chrysler Intrepid, 2002 Chrysler Concorde, and 2002 Chrysler 300M. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Using scan tool, check STARTS SINCE SET counter for DTC P0951. If counter is set at zero, go to next step. If counter is not set at zero, go to step 10.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect Autostick switch harness connector located under gearshift lever. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ground and Autostick downshift switch sense circuit (terminal No. 1) and between ground and upshift switch sense circuit (terminal No. 2) at Autostick switch harness connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If voltage is greater than 5 volts on both circuits, replace Autostick switch. If voltage is 5 volts or less, go to next step.
- Measure voltage between ground and fused ignition switch output circuit at Autostick switch harness connector terminal No. 4. If voltage is greater than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is 10 volts or less, repair open in fused ignition switch output circuit.
- Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between ground and ground circuit at Autostick switch harness connector terminal No. 3. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open ground circuit. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step.
- Disconnect PCM harness connector C3. See Figure. Measure resistance of Autostick downshift switch sense circuit between Autostick switch harness connector terminal No. 1 and PCM harness connector C3 terminal No. 26 using Miller Special Tool (8815). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in switch sense circuit. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step.
- Measure resistance between ground and Autostick downshift switch sense circuit at PCM harness connector C3 terminal No. 26 using Miller Special Tool (8815). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair switch sense circuit for a short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, go to next step.
- Measure resistance of Autostick upshift switch sense circuit between Autostick switch harness connector terminal No. 2 and PCM harness connector C3 terminal No. 27 using Miller Special Tool (8815). See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in switch sense circuit. If resistance 5 ohms or less, go to next step.
- Measure resistance between ground and Autostick upshift switch sense circuit at Autostick switch harness connector terminal No. 2. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair switch sense circuit for a short to ground. If resistance is 5 ohms or greater, go to next step.
- Turn ignition on. Using scan tool, activate Autostick switch status. Shift into Autostick. Pull gearshift lever to the left several times to actuate downshift switch, then push gearshift lever to the right several times to actuate upshift switch. If upshift and downshift switch status on scan tool display toggles, testing is complete. If switch status on scan tool display does not toggle, replace PCM. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Check for low battery voltage or charging system problems. Check PCM power and ground circuits for intermittent shorts or high resistance. Conditions necessary to set DTC are not present at this time. Using wiring diagram as a guide, inspect wiring and connectors associated with circuits in question. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Wiggle wires while checking for shorted and open circuits. Repair as necessary. If circuits are okay, testing is complete.
