Diagnostic Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Intrepid, 2002 Chrysler Intrepid, 2002 Chrysler Concorde, and 2002 Chrysler 300M. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Using scan tool, read PCM DTCs and record related freeze frame data. Check good trip counter for DTC P0850. If counter is set at zero, go to next step. If counter is not set at zero, go to step  3.
  2. Using scan tool, read transaxle DTCs. If transaxle DTCs are present, repair as necessary. If no transaxle DTCs are present, check PCM harness connector terminals for corrosion, damage or pushed out terminals. Repair as necessary. If terminals are okay, PCM is assumed to be faulty. Repair or replace as necessary. See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Conditions necessary to set DTC are not present at this time. Fault may be intermittent. Using scan tool, check freeze frame data to determine conditions when DTC set. Pay particular attention to DTC set conditions such as VSS, MAP, ECT and load. Monitor scan tool while wiggling related wiring and connectors. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Check related wiring and connectors for poor connections or damage to wiring harness. Repair as necessary. If no problems are found, check if any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) apply to vehicle. If no TSBs apply, testing is complete.
