Test 4C: No Response From Right SIACM
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Intrepid, 2002 Chrysler Intrepid, 2002 Chrysler Concorde, and 2002 Chrysler 300M. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE
under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform air bag verification test after all repairs unless otherwise directed. See TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST
under DIAGNOSTIC TESTS.
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Connect DRBIII to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Using DRBIII, select PASSIVE RESTRAINTS and read DTCs. If LOSS OF IGNITION RUN/START is displayed, go to TEST 3A: LOSS OF IGNITION RUN-START under and diagnose malfunction. If LOSS OF IGNITION RUN/START is not displayed, go to next step.
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access and disconnect right Side Impact Air Bag Control Module (SIACM) connector. See SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE (SIACM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect 12-volt test light to positive terminal of battery or other power source. Probe right SIACM connector terminal No. 6 (Black Light/Green wire). See Figure . If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open circuit in Black Light/Green wire between right SIACM connector and ground. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Measure voltage between ground and right SIACM connector terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Yellow wire). If voltage is less than 6 volts, repair open circuit in Light Green/Yellow wire. If voltage is more than 6 volts, go to next step.
- Using Scope Input Cable (CH7058), connect scope input cable to DRBIII channel one connector. Using Cable-to-Probe Adapter (CH7062) and Red and Black test probes, connect cable-to-probe adapter and Red and Black test probes to scope input cable. Using DRBIII, select PEP MODULE TOOLS, LAB SCOPE, LIVE DATA and 12 VOLT SQUARE WAVE. Press F2 for scope and ENTER to select channel. Press F2 and use down arrow to set voltage range to 20 volts. Set probe to X10. Press F2 when voltage range and probe are set. Connect Black test probe to body ground. Connect Red test probe to right SIACM connector terminal No. 2 (Violet/Yellow wire). If voltage reading on DRBIII display pulses from 0-7.5 volts, replace right SIACM. If voltage reading on DRBIII display does not pulse from 0-7.5 volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Disconnect BCM connector C4 located at fuse block. See Figure . Fuse block is located behind instrument panel left end cap. Measure resistance between right SIACM connector terminal No. 2 and BCM connector C4 terminal No. 9 (Violet/Yellow wire). See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULE (BCM) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open circuit in Violet/Yellow wire (PCI bus).
NOTE:
Ensure there is PCI bus communications with other vehicle control modules. Diagnose and resolve any PCI bus malfunctions before proceeding to next step.
