Steering Wheel: Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Intrepid, 2002 Chrysler Intrepid, 2002 Chrysler Concorde, and 2002 Chrysler 300M. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ensure clockspring is centered, steering wheel position is half turn to right and turn signal switch stalk is in neutral position. If front wheels were turned after steering wheel was removed, readjustment of clockspring is necessary. See CLOCKSPRING CENTERING  under ADJUSTMENTS.
  2. Carefully route wires through steering wheel. Position steering wheel to shaft aligning flats on hub with clockspring. Ensure wires are not pinched behind steering wheel. Install steering wheel retaining nut and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Install driver-side air bag module. DO NOT connect battery at this time. Perform air bag system check to ensure system is functioning properly. See AIR BAG SYSTEM CHECK  under SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK.
