Removal & Installation: CLOCKSPRING: Removal

- Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . Place front wheels in straight-ahead position, then rotate steering wheel half turn (180 degrees) to right. Lock steering wheel in place by removing ignition key.
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove cruise control switches retaining screws and switches from back of steering wheel, if equipped.
- Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL . Remove tilt wheel release lever. Remove upper and lower steering column covers. Disconnect 2-pin and 4-pin connectors from back of clockspring. Remove clockspring retaining screws and lift clockspring off steering column. See Figure .
