Removal & Installation: CLOCKSPRING: Removal

  1. Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  . Place front wheels in straight-ahead position, then rotate steering wheel half turn (180 degrees) to right. Lock steering wheel in place by removing ignition key.
  2. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove cruise control switches retaining screws and switches from back of steering wheel, if equipped.
  3. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL  . Remove tilt wheel release lever. Remove upper and lower steering column covers. Disconnect 2-pin and 4-pin connectors from back of clockspring. Remove clockspring retaining screws and lift clockspring off steering column. See Figure .
