Transmission Range Sensor: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2002 Dodge Stratus and 2002 Chrysler Sebring. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Valve body must be removed from transaxle for servicing of TRS. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove air cleaner assembly.
  2. Disconnect gearshift cable from manual valve lever. Remove manual valve lever. Disconnect TRS harness connector. See Figure. Raise and support vehicle.
    NOTE: To ease removal of valve body, turn manual valve lever fully clockwise to low or first gear.
  3. Remove transaxle oil pan and filter. Remove 18 valve body-to-transaxle case bolts. Using screwdriver, push park rod rollers from guide bracket, then remove valve body from transaxle. See Fig 1.
  4. Remove manual shaft seal from manual shaft. See Fig 2. Remove TRS retaining screw. Slide TRS off of manual shaft to remove.
