Cooling System Bleeding: 2.7L

- Open cooling system air bleed valve. Air bleed valve is located on coolant outlet on front of engine. See Fig 1. Attach one end of a 48" (120.0 cm) long by .250" (6.35 mm) inside diameter clear air bleed hose to air bleed valve. Air bleed hose is used to prevent coolant from contacting accessory drive belt when bleeding cooling system.
- Route air bleed hose away from accessory drive belt, drive pulleys and electric cooling fan. Place other end of air bleed hose in coolant container.
- Remove cap and install Funnel (8195) in coolant reservoir bottle. Use clip attached to funnel to pinch overflow hose closed. See Fig 1. Overflow hose fits between 2 chambers on coolant reservoir bottle.CAUTION: Manufacturer recommends using only Mopar Extended Life Coolant with a 50/50 concentration coolant and distilled water. This coolant contains corrosion inhibitors that permit extended service drain intervals. DO NOT mix coolants. If coolant other than Mopar Extended Life Coolant is used, service drain interval will be reduced.
- Pour a 50/50 concentration of coolant and distilled water into large area on funnel. Smaller area on funnel will allow air to escape when filling cooling system. Slowly fill cooling system until a steady stream of coolant flows from air bleed hose.
- Close air bleed valve. Continue filling cooling system until coolant level is at top of funnel. Remove clip from overflow hose. This will allow coolant in funnel to flow into overflow chamber on coolant reservoir bottle. Remove funnel from coolant reservoir bottle. Install cap on coolant reservoir bottle. Remove air bleed hose.
- Cooling system will bleed any remaining air into coolant reservoir bottle within about one hour of normal driving. As a result, coolant level in coolant reservoir bottle will decrease. If the engine cooling system overheats and pushes coolant into the overflow chamber of the pressure container, coolant will be sucked back into the cooling system (only if the pressure cap is left on the pressure container). Removing the pressure cap breaks the vacuum path between the two chambers of the pressure container and the coolant will not return to the cooling system.
- Shutoff engine and allow it to cool down. This permits coolant to be drawn into the pressure chamber. With engine cold, observe coolant level in pressure chamber. Coolant level should be within MIN and MAX marks. Adjust coolant level as necessary.
