Low Oil Pressure Warning Light Always On Or Inoperative
- Start engine. If oil pressure warning light stays on with engine running, turn ignition switch to OFF position and go to step 3. If oil pressure warning light fails to come on with ignition switch in ON position, check for open warning light bulb, broken or disconnected wiring at oil pressure sending unit. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Repair as necessary. If no fault is indicated, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect oil pressure sending unit. Oil pressure sending unit is located near oil filter. Using a jumper wire, ground terminal at oil pressure sending unit connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. If oil pressure warning light fails to come on, check for problems in circuit wiring, disconnected bulb socket in message center, or faulty BCM. See BODY CONTROL MODULES article. Repair or replace as necessary.
- Check for short to ground in oil pressure sending unit wiring harness. Oil pressure sending unit is located near oil filter. Repair wiring as necessary. If wiring is okay, remove oil pressure sending unit. Connect oil pressure gauge in place of sending unit. Start engine and note gauge reading. If reading is 4.0 psi or more at idle, replace oil pressure sending unit. If reading is less than 4.0 psi, repair cause of low oil pressure in engine.
