Parking Brake Front Cable: Removal
- Raise and support vehicle. Lock parking brake pedal automatic adjuster in place. See PARKING BRAKE CABLE under ADJUSTMENTS. Disconnect parking brake cables from equalizer. Once the cable is released from the equalizer, DO NOT remove the locking pliers until reinstallation of the cable is complete.
- Remove the intermediate and left rear parking brake cable from the parking brake cable equalizer. See Figure. Remove the front parking cable housing retainer from body outrigger bracket. Cable is removable by sliding a 14 mm box wrench over cable retainer and compressing the three retaining fingers. See Fig 1. Alternate method is to use an aircraft type hose clamp and screwdriver.
- Lower vehicle. Remove the left front door sill molding. Remove the left front kick panel for access to the parking brake cable and parking brake pedal assembly. Lift the floor mat for access to parking brake cable and floor pan. Pull the seal and the parking brake cable out of the floor pan of vehicle. See Fig 2. Pull parking brake cable strand end forward and disconnect button from the clevis. Tap the cable housing end fitting out of the pedal assembly bracket.
- Remove the cable retainer from the parking brake lever (pedal) assembly bracket. Pull the front parking brake cable assembly out of vehicle through hole in floor pan.
