Analog Instrument Panels: Troubleshooting

CAUTION: Always turn ignition off before disconnecting any control module connector. Failure to do so could result in damage to control module. Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position and scan tool is disconnected before disconnecting battery, jump starting or charging battery.

NOTE: Do not use a test light in place of a Digital Volt-Ohm Meter (DVOM), unless test light usage is specified.

Verify customer complaint. Check all system related fuses. Check components for visible damage. Check components for loose/poor connections, corrosion and backed-out terminals. Check battery condition and battery terminals. Ensure charging system is operating properly. Check for damaged wiring. Check ground connections. See GROUND DISTRIBUTION in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. Correct any obvious problems before continuing with testing. If no problems exist, go to SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM .
