DTC P0351: Ignition Coil #1 Circuit, DTC P0352: Ignition Coil #2 Circuit, DTC P0353: Ignition Coil #3 Circuit, DTC P0354: Ignition Coil #4 Circuit, DTC P0355: Ignition Coil #5 Circuit Or DTC P0356: Ignition Coil #6 Circuit: Testing
- Turn ignition on, engine off. With the DRBIII®, read DTCs and record the related Freeze Frame data. Is the Good Trip counter displayed and equal to zero? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 9.
- Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Coil On Plug harness connector related to DTC that is set. Turn ignition on, engine not running. With the DRBIII®, actuate the ASD Relay. Using a 12-volt test light connected to ground (B-), check the ASD relay output circuit at the Coil On Plug harness connector. Does the test light illuminate brightly? If yes, stop all actuations and go to next step. If no, stop all actuations and go to step 7.
- Turn the ignition off. Measure the primary resistance of the Coil On Plug (component side). Is the resistance between 0.6 and 0.9 ohm? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace the Coil On Plug.
- Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect PCM harness connectors. Measure the resistance between the Coil Driver circuit at the Coil On Plug harness connector and ground. Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? If yes, repair the short to ground in the Coil Driver circuit. If no, go to next step.
- Measure the resistance of the Coil Driver circuit from the Coil On Plug connector to the PCM connector. Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair the open Coil Driver circuit.
- There are no possible causes remaining, replace PCM. Program the new PCM. See PROGRAMMING .
- Ensure the ignition is off and Coil On Plug is disconnected. Remove the ASD Relay from the PDC. Measure the resistance of the ASD Relay Output circuit between the ASD Relay connector and the Coil On Plug harness connector. Is the resistance below 5.0 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair the open in the ASD Relay Output circuit.
- Turn the ignition off. Disconnect the Ignition Coil Capacitor harness connector. Install a good INJ/COIL fuse (fuse S) in the PDC. With the DRBIII®, actuate the ASD Relay. Is the INJ/COIL fuse okay for both Ignition Coil Capacitor tests? If yes, replace the Ignition Coil Capacitor(s). If no, repair the short to ground in the ASD Output circuit.
- The conditions that set the DTC are not present at this time. The following may help in identifying the intermittent condition. With the engine running at normal operating temperature, monitor the DRBIII® parameters related to the DTC while wiggling the wiring harness. Look for parameter values to change and/or a DTC to set. Review the DRBIII® Freeze Frame information. If possible, try to duplicate the conditions under which the DTC was set. Refer to any Technical Service Bulletins (TSB) that may apply. Visually inspect the related wiring harness. Look for any chafed, pierced, pinched, or partially broken wires. Visually inspect the related wiring harness connectors. Look for broken, bent, pushed out, or corroded terminals. Were any of the above conditions present? If yes, repair as necessary. If no, test is complete.
NOTE:
The following resistance measurement should be taken at 70-80°F (21-26°C).
NOTE:
Before continuing, check the PCM harness connectors for corrosion, damage or terminal push out. Repair as necessary.
NOTE:
Repeat the following test for both Ignition Coil Capacitors. The Ignition Coil Capacitors are attached to the side of each valve cover.

When the engine is operating, do not stand in a direct line with the fan. Do not put your hands near the pulleys, belts or fan. Do not wear loose clothing.
