Parking Brake Cable TENSIONER: Installation

  1. Mark tensioner rod 1/4" (5.35 mm) from edge of tensioner bracket. See Figure .
  2. Install the parking brake tensioner, with its isolator, in the vehicle, with the threaded adjustment stud towards the right side of the vehicle. See Figure .
  3. Connect the left rear parking brake cable to the cable connector on the tensioner. See Figure .
  4. Attach the threaded end of the tensioner to the equalizer bracket, and install a new adjuster nut. See Figure . Do not tighten at this time.
  5. Verify the rear parking brake shoes are properly adjusted.
  6. Lower vehicle enough for access to parking brake foot pedal. Fully apply parking brakes.
    7. NOTE: Leave parking brake applied until adjustment is complete.
  7. Raise vehicle again.
  8. Tighten adjusting nut at equalizer until mark on tensioner rod moved into alignment with edge of tensioner bracket. See Figure .
  9. Lower vehicle until rear wheels are 6-8" (15-20 cm) off shop floor.
  10. Release parking brake foot pedal and verify that rear wheels rotate freely without drag. Verify pedal returns to the fully released position.
  11. Lower the vehicle to the ground.
