Retrieving Diagnostic Trouble Codes

  1. Turn ignition off. Connect scan tool to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Fig 1. Turn ignition on. Ensure there is communication with Body Control Module (BCM). If scan tool communicates with BCM, go to next step. If any communication problems exist, repair communications concern before proceeding. See BODY CONTROL MODULES - CONCORDE, INTREPID & 300M (2002) or BODY DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES (2003).
  2. Using scan tool, select BODY SYSTEM, BODY COMPUTER, then read DTCS. If no DTCs exist, go to next step. If any DTCs exist, perform appropriate test. See DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE IDENTIFICATION  table. If no DTCs exist, repair by symptom. See SYMPTOM IDENTIFICATION  table.
  3. Conditions required to set DTC are not present at this time. Fault may be intermittent. Monitor scan tool while wiggling related wiring and connectors. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Check related wiring and connectors for poor connections or damage to wiring harness. Repair any problems found as necessary. If no problems are found, check if any Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) apply to vehicle. If no TSBs apply, test is complete.
