Seat Belt PRETENSIONER

On sedan models, the seat belt pretensioner is a component of the front seat belt retractor and mounted on the B-pillar near the floor panel. On convertible models, the seat belt pretensioner is a component of the front seat belt buckle and is mounted to the inboard side of the front seat. Seat belt pretensioner contains a squib and pyrotechnic actuator that is triggered simultaneously with air bags in the event of a front end collision of sufficient force. Upon deployment, the seat belt pretensioner rapidly retracts seat belt, restricting occupants forward motion.
