Using Ignition Switch

NOTE: For entire list of powertrain DTCs, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTIC article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
  1. Ensure ignition switch is in OFF position. Within 5 seconds, rapidly cycle ignition switch on, off, on, off and ending in on position. Monitor odometer display window in instrument cluster for DTC/fault message presentation. Odometer will display fault messages and/or powertrain DTCs currently set or stored in memory. Record each DTC/fault message displayed in odometer window, and go to appropriate diagnostic procedure for DTC/fault messages recorded (except P1684). If DTC P1684 or DONE text message is displayed in odometer window, go to next step.
  2. If no DTCs were present, odometer will display one of two messages. If P1684 or DONE is displayed, or if both messages are displayed, these indicate that no active DTCs exist. Ignition switch DTC check is now complete.
NOTE: DTC P1684 is a status message indicating PCM memory has been cleared within the past 50 ignition cycles and does not indicate a fault.
