Evaporator Temperature Sensor

Evaporator temperature sensor prevents evaporator core from icing over, or when condensation at evaporator core freezes and obstructs airflow through evaporator core. When an icing condition is possible, evaporator temperature sensor sends signal to BCM. BCM sends request for PCM to begin cycling compressor clutch off and on. By cycling compressor clutch, evaporator core temperature increases and prevents evaporator core icing. Evaporator temperature sensor is located on evaporator housing near evaporator, with its sensing probe inserted into evaporator core coils.

The A/C compressor clutch cycling will begin when evaporator core temperature reaches 34°F (1.1°C) and compressor clutch is disengaged. Compressor clutch will be engaged when evaporator temperature is greater than 36°F (2.2°C).
