When output signal from output shaft speed sensor multiplied by 2nd gear ratio is not the same as output signal from input shaft speed sensor after shifting to 2nd gear, DTC 42 is set. When DTC 42 is set 4 times, transaxle is locked into 3rd gear as a fail-safe measure and "N" range indicator light flashes. Possible cause for DTC 42 may be faulty input shaft speed sensor, output shaft speed sensor, PCM, underdrive clutch retainer, output shaft, second brake system or noise interference in harnesses or connectors.
