Except Sebring Coupe & Stratus Coupe

  1. On Breeze, Cirrus and Status Sedan, pull shift lever boot downward from bottom of shift laver knob on shift lever. Using screwdriver, pry legs on each side of shift lever knob from shift lever. Legs are located at bottom of shift lever knob. Remove shift lever knob from shift lever.
  2. Remove shift lever boot from center console by squeezing base of shift lever boot together. Remove 2 screws at front of center console located near shift lever. Remove 2 screws from rear of center console. Fully engage parking brake. Remove center console.
  3. On Neon, pull shift lever boot downward and away from shift lever knob. Push downward on shift lever knob, and rotate clockwise to remove. Remove cover plugs over screws located behind cup holders on center console. Remove screws holding center console to floor bracket.
  4. Open lid on center console, if equipped. Remove cover plugs over screws near rear of center console (if equipped with a non-arm rest center console). Remove remaining screws and center console. Separate shift lever boot from shift lever assembly. Shift lever boot is retained to shift lever assembly by 3 push pin retainers.
  5. On PT Cruiser, fully apply parking brake. Remove screws attaching console to floor bracket. Raise console to access wire connector. Pull upward to remove shift lever knob. Lift console upward over shift lever assembly and parking brake handle. Remove console from vehicle.
  6. On all models, loosen cable adjusting screw on shift crossover cable at shift lever assembly. See Fig 1 . Using a 1/4" drill bit, lock transaxle crossover lever in 3-4 neutral position. Align hole in transaxle crossover lever with hole in boss on transaxle case. See Fig 2 . Ensure drill bit engages hole in transaxle case at least .500" (12.7 mm).
  7. Place shift lever in Neutral. Shift lever is spring loaded and self-centering. Tighten cable adjusting screw to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . DO NOT move shift lever when tightening cable adjusting screw.
  8. Remove drill bit. Ensure transaxle shifts properly in all gears. Reinstall center console, shift lever boot and shift lever knob.
