Clutch Assembly: Installation

- Apply grease to input shaft splines. Also apply grease to clutch release bearing and fork contact surfaces, and to clutch release fork fulcrum or shaft and bushings (depending on model application). Using clutch alignment tool, position clutch disc and clutch cover onto flywheel. Install clutch cover-to-flywheel bolts and tighten evenly, in a crisscross pattern to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Use NEW axle shaft snap rings. See FWD AXLE SHAFTS - SEBRING COUPE & STRATUS COUPE article in DRIVE AXLES. Use NEW lower ball joint nuts and tie rod end cotter pins. On pull-type clutch system, engage clutch release fork to wedge collar by moving release fork in direction "A". See Fig 1 . When clutch release fork is engaged, fork should drag in direction "B".
- On all models, install transaxle roll stopper with arrow pointing in direction indicated. See Fig 2 . Tighten all bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Fill transaxle with appropriate fluid. See LUBRICATION in SERVICING M/T article in MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. Check shift lever and speedometer operation.
CAUTION:
On pull-type clutch system, DO NOT roll transaxle assembly during installation. If transaxle is rolled, wedge collar and wire ring will be deformed, resulting in clutch malfunction.
