Cylinder Head: Removal

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
CAUTION: A production change introduced a new Multi-Layer Steel (MLS) head gasket. See TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 09-05-98, dated November 6, 1998.
  1. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE . Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Remove air cleaner, and disconnect all vacuum lines, electrical wiring and fuel lines from throttle body. Remove throttle linkage. Remove accessory drive belts. Remove power brake vacuum hose from intake manifold.
  2. Raise vehicle and remove exhaust pipe from manifold. Remove P/S pump assembly, and lay aside. Disconnect coil pack wiring connector and remove coil pack and bracket from engine. Remove wiring connectors for cam sensor and fuel injectors. Remove timing belt and camshaft sprockets. See TIMING BELT . Remove cam cover. Remove cylinder head bolts. Remove cylinder head.
