Gearshift Cable: Removal

- Place transaxle in PARK.
- Disconnect battery negative cable at left strut tower.
- Remove air cleaner assembly.
- Using a pry tool, pry up on cable at manual valve lever and remove cable from lever. See Fig 1.
- Remove the screw from the cable bracket at the transaxle. See Fig 1.
1 - SCREW 2 - CABLE 3 - TRANSAXLE 4 - SHIFT LEVER - Remove the gearshift knob set screw and knob. See Fig 2.
1 - GEARSHIFT KNOB 2 - SET SCREW 3 - GEARSHIFT MECHANISM - Remove gearshift bezel. See Fig 3. Disconnect range indicator lamp connector.
1 - CENTER CONSOLE ASSEMBLY 2 - GEARSHIFT BEZEL 3 - LAMP CONNECTOR - Remove center console assembly. See Fig 4.
1 - CENTER CONSOLE 2 - SCREW 3 - IF EQUIPPED 4 - IF EQUIPPED 5 - PARK BRAKE HANDLE - Loosen nut on shift cable adjust lever. See Fig 5.
1 - ACCESS HOLE - Using a flat blade pry tool, remove the shifter cable core end from the shift lever pin. See Fig 6.
- Using a flat blade pry tool, pry the cable conduit clip up from the shifter bracket. Pull up on the cable conduit and remove from bracket. See Fig 6.
1 - CLIP 2 - CABLE 3 - CONDUIT BRACKET 4 - SHIFT PIN - Raise vehicle on hoist.
- Remove the cable grommet from the floor pan area. See Fig 7.
- Carefully remove the cable from the underbody by unfolding the cable retainer clip as you go along. See Fig 7.
