Engine 2.4L DOHC: Description
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Dodge Stratus and 2005 Chrysler Sebring. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The 2.4 Liter (148 cu. in.) in-line four cylinder engine is a double over head camshaft with hydraulic lifters and four valve per cylinder design. See Fig 1. The engine is free-wheeling; meaning it has provisions for piston-to-valve clearance. However valve-to-valve interference can occur, if camshafts are rotated independently.
The cylinders are numbered from front of the engine to the rear. The firing order is 1-3-4-2.
The engine identification number is located on the rear of the cylinder block. See Fig 2.
