Test 50A: Orc, Warning Indicator Circuit Open (Active Code)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan, 2001 Dodge Caravan, 2001 Chrysler Voyager, and 2001 Chrysler Town & Country. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST  after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
  1. Use this procedure to diagnose the following active DTCs:
    • ORC, WARNING INDICATOR CIRCUIT OPEN
    • ORC, WARNING INDICATOR CIRCUIT SHORT
  1. Connect DRB to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Using DRB, ensure instrument cluster is communicating on the PCI bus. If DRB shows instrument cluster is communicating on the PCI bus, go to next step. If DRB does not show instrument cluster is communicating on the PCI bus, diagnose open circuit in instrument cluster and/or instrument cluster PCI bus circuit.
  2. On DRB, select PASSIVE RESTRAINTS, AIRBAG, MONITOR DISPLAY. View WARNING LAMP MONITOR and select LAMP STATUS. If DRB displays LAMP STATUS: OK, and no other malfunctions are detected, replace ORC. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If DRB does not display LAMP STATUS: OK, replace instrument cluster circuit board. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
