Test 48A: Orc, Passenger Squib 2 Circuit Short To Battery (Active Code)

NOTE: Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST  after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Disconnect dual-stage passenger-side air bag module connector located above glove box. Connect SRS Load Tool (8443) to harness side of dual-stage passenger-side air bag module connector. Connect DRB to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. On DRB display, read active air bag DTCs. If DRB displays PASSENGER SQUIB 2 CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step. If DRB does not display PASSENGER SQUIB 2 CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY, replace passenger-side air bag module. See DUAL-STAGE PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect ORC connector. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect SRS load tool adapter to harness side of ORC connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Measure voltage between ground and passenger-side air bag module connector terminal No. 4 (Light Blue-White wire). See Figure . If voltage is less than 0.5 volt, go to next step. If voltage is more than 0.5 volt, repair short to battery in Light Blue-White wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
  3. Measure voltage between ground and passenger-side air bag module connector terminal No. 3 (Light Blue-Violet wire). See Figure . If voltage is less than 0.5 volt and no other malfunctions are detected, replace ORC. If voltage is more than 0.5 volt, repair short to battery in Light Blue-Violet wire.
