Test 45A: Orc, Passenger Squib 1 Circuit Short To Ground (Active Code)

NOTE: Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST  after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Disconnect dual-stage passenger-side air bag module connector located above glove box. Connect SRS Load Tool (8443) to harness side of dual-stage passenger-side air bag module connector. Connect DRB to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. On DRB display, read active air bag DTCs. If DRB displays PASSENGER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND, go to next step. If DRB does not display PASSENGER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT SHORT TO GROUND, replace passenger-side air bag module. See DUAL-STAGE PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect ORC connector. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect SRS load tool adapter to harness side of ORC connector. Measure resistance between ground and passenger-side air bag module connector terminal No. 2 (Light Blue-Orange wire). See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Light Blue-Orange wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If resistance is more than 5 ohms, go to next step.
  3. Measure resistance between ground and passenger-side air bag module connector terminal No. 1 (Light Blue-Brown wire). See Figure . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, repair short to ground in Light Blue-Brown wire. If resistance is more than 5 ohms and no other malfunctions are detected, replace ORC.
