Test 36A: Orc, Passenger SBS Short To Battery (Active Code)

NOTE: Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST  after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
  1. Disconnect passenger-side front seat belt switch connector. See Figure . Connect DRB to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. On DRB display, read active DTCs. If DRB displays PASSENGER SBS CIRCUIT OPEN, replace passenger-side seat belt pretensioner. If DRB does not display PASSENGER SBS CIRCUIT OPEN, go to next step.
  2. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Access and disconnect ORC connector. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Measure voltage between ground and seat belt switch connector Light Blue-Tan wire and Light Blue-Gray wire individually. If voltage is less than 4 volts and no other malfunctions are detected, replace ORC. If voltage is more than 4 volts, repair short to battery in seat belt switch wiring harness. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  .
