WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan, 2001 Dodge Caravan, 2001 Chrysler Voyager, and 2001 Chrysler Town & Country. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Prior to performing any air bag system test, go to PRETEST INSPECTION & DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE  under DIAGNOSTICS. Perform TEST VER-1: AIR BAG VERIFICATION TEST  after all repairs unless otherwise directed.
  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING SYSTEM  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Remove dual-stage driver-side air bag module. See DUAL-STAGE DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect SRS Load Tool (8443) and appropriate jumper to clockspring side of clockspring-to-air bag module connector. Connect DRB to DLC. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. On DRB display, read active air bag DTCs. If DRB displays DRIVER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step. If DRB does not display DRIVER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY, replace dual-stage driver-side air bag module.
  2. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect clockspring lower connector. See CLOCKSPRING  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect SRS load tool and appropriate jumper to harness side of clockspring lower connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. On DRB display, read active air bag DTCs. If DRB displays DRIVER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY, go to next step. If DRB does not display DRIVER SQUIB 1 CIRCUIT SHORT TO BATTERY, replace clockspring.
  3. Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes. Access and disconnect ORC connector. See OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROLLER (ORC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect SRS load tool adapter to harness side of ORC connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect negative battery cable. Measure voltage between ground and Light Green-Brown wire on harness side of lower clockspring connector. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If voltage is less than 0.5 volt, go to next step. If voltage is more than 0.5 volt, repair short to battery in Light Green-Brown wire.
  4. Measure voltage between ground and Light Green-Orange wire on harness side of lower clockspring connector. If voltage is less than 0.5 volt and no other malfunctions are detected, replace ORC. If voltage is more than 0.5 volt, repair short to battery in Light Green-Orange wire.
