Seat Belt PRETENSIONER
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2001 Dodge Grand Caravan, 2001 Dodge Caravan, 2001 Chrysler Voyager, and 2001 Chrysler Town & Country. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
The seat belt pretensioner is a component of the front seat belt buckle. It contains a squib and pyrotechnic actuator that is triggered simultaneously with air bags in the event of a front end collision of sufficient force. Upon deployment, the seat belt pretensioner rapidly retracts seat belt, restricting occupants forward motion.
