INSPECTION PROCEDURE 5: Combination meter does not Work.: Diagnosis
Required Special Tools:
- MB991223: Harness Set
- STEP 1. Measure at combination meter connector C-102 in order to check the battery circuit of power supply system to the combination meter.
- Disconnect combination meter connector C-102, and measure at the wiring harness side.
- Measure the voltage between terminal 31 and ground.
- The measured value should be approximately 12 volts (battery positive voltage).
Q: Does the measured voltage correspond with this range?
YES : Go to Step 4.
NO: Go to Step 2.
- STEP 2. Check combination meter connector C-102 for damage.
Q: Is combination meter connector C-102 in good condition?
YES : Go to Step 3.
NO: Repair or replace the connector. Refer to , HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION . Check to see that all meters operate.
- STEP 3. Check the wiring harnesses between combination meter connector C-102 (terminal 31) and the battery.
NOTE: Also check intermediate connector C-209. If intermediate connectors C-209 are damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in , HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION .
Q: Are the wiring harnesses between combination meter connector C-102 (terminal 31) and the battery in good condition?
YES : There is no action to be taken.
NO: Repair the wiring harness(es). Check to see that all meters operate.
- STEP 4. Measure at combination meter connector C-101 in order to check the battery circuit of power supply system to the combination meter.
- Disconnect combination meter connector C-101, and measure at the wiring harness side.
- Turn the ignition switch to "ON" position.
- Measure the voltage between terminal 12 and ground.
- The measured value should be approximately 12 volts (battery positive voltage).
Q: Does the measured voltage correspond with this range?
YES : Go to Step 7.
NO: Go to Step 5.
- STEP 5. Check combination meter connector C-101 for damage.
Q: Is combination meter connector C-101 in good condition?
YES : Go to Step 6.
NO: Repair or replace the connector. Refer to , HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION . Check to see that all meters operate.
- STEP 6. Check the wiring harnesses between combination meter connector C-101 (terminal 12) and ignition switch (IG1).
NOTE: Also check junction connectors C-308 and C-311. If junction connectors C-308 or C-311 are damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in , HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION .
Q: Are the wiring harness between combination meter connector C-101 (terminal 12) and ignition switch (IG1) in good condition?
YES : There is no action to be taken.
NO: Repair the wiring harness(es). Check to see that all meters operate.
- STEP 7. Measure at combination meter connector C-101 and C-102 in order to check the ground circuit to the combination meter.
- Disconnect combination meter connector C-101 and C-102, and measure at the wiring harness side.
- Measure the resistance between combination meter connector C-101 terminal 22 and ground.
- The measured value should be 2 ohms or less.
- Measure the resistance between combination meter connector C-102 terminal 48 and ground.
- The measured value should be 2 ohms or less.
Q: Does the measured voltage correspond with this range?
YES : Repair the combination meter. Check to see that all meters operate.
NO: Go to Step 8.
- STEP 8. Check combination meter connector C-101 and C-102 for damage.
Q: Are combination meter connector C-101 and C-102 in good condition?
YES : Go to Step 9.
NO: Repair or replace the connector(s). Refer to , HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION . Check to see that all meters operate.
- STEP 9. Check the wiring harness between combination meter connector C-101 (terminal 22), C-102 (terminal 48) and ground.
Q: Is the wiring harness between combination meter connector C-101 (terminal 22), C-102 (terminal 48) and ground in good condition?
YES : There is no action to be taken.
NO: Repair the wiring harness. Check to see that all
