INSPECTION PROCEDURE 1: Speedometer does not Work.: Diagnosis
Required Special Tools:
- MB991223: Harness Set
- MB991502: Scan Tool (MUT-II)
- STEP 1. Check the speedometer by observing the other meters.
Check to see that the tachometer, fuel gauge and water thermometer are operating normally.
Q: Do all other meters operate?
YES < other meters all operate. > : Go to Step 2.
NO < one of the meters do not operate. > : Refer to INSPECTION PROCEDURE 5 .
- STEP 2. Using scan tool MB991502, read the diagnostic trouble code (DTC). CAUTION: To prevent damage to the scan tool, always turn the ignition switch to "LOCK" (OFF) position before connecting or disconnecting the scan tool.
- Connect scan tool MB991502 to the data link connector.
- Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
- Read the MFI system diagnostic trouble code.
Q: Is DTC P0500 set?
YES : Refer to MULTIPORT FUEL INJECTION (MFI) DIAGNOSIS < 2.4L > or MULTIPORT FUEL INJECTION (MFI) DIAGNOSIS < 3.0L > .
NO: Go to Step 3.
- STEP 3. Check combination meter connector C-102, PCM connector C-117 < A/T-2.4 L >, C-119 < A/T-3.0 L > and vehicle speed sensor connector B-109 < M/T > for damage.
Q: Are combination meter connector C-102, PCM connector C-117 < A/T-2.4 L >, C-119 < A/T-3.0 L > and vehicle speed sensor connector B-109 < M/T > in good condition?
YES : Go to Step 4.
NO: Repair or replace the connector(s). Refer to , HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION . The speedometer should work normally.
- STEP 4. Check the wiring harnesses between combination meter connector C-102 (terminal 44) and PCM connector C-117 < A/T-2.4 L > (terminal 80), C-119 < A/T-3.0 L > (terminal 80) or vehicle speed sensor connector B-109 < M/T > (terminal 3).
NOTE: Also check intermediate connectors B-106 < M/T >, C-25 and joint connector C-140. If intermediate connectors B-106 < M/T >, C-25 or joint connector C-140 are damaged, repair or replace the connector as described in , HARNESS CONNECTOR INSPECTION .
Q: Are the wiring harnesses between combination meter connector C-102 (terminal 44) and PCM connector C-117 < A/T-2.4 L > (terminal 80) C-119 < A/T-3.0 L > (terminal 80) or vehicle speed sensor connector B-109 < M/T > (terminal 3) in good condition?
YES : Go to Step 5.
NO: Repair the wiring harness(es). The speedometer should work normally.
- STEP 5. Check the speedometer by operating the auto-cruise control system.
Q: Does auto-cruise control work?
YES : Replace the combination meter. The speedometer should work normally.
NO: Replace the vehicle speed sensor < M/T > or PCM < A/T >. The speedometer should work normally.
