Idle Mixture Check (Sebring Coupe & Stratus Coupe)

  1. Before proceeding, check base ignition timing. See IGNITION TIMING  . Increase engine speed to 2500 RPM, and hold for 2 minutes.
  2. Using exhaust gas analyzer, check CO and HC levels with engine idling. CO level should be .5 percent or less, and HC level should be 100 ppm or less.
  3. If idle mixture is not as specified, check the following:
    • Check for DTCs. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article.
    • Check for closed-loop fuel control (heated oxygen sensor output voltage switches from less than .4 volt to .6-1.0 volt at idle).
    • Check fuel pressure. See BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES - SEBRING COUPE & STRATUS COUPE article.
    • Check fuel injectors. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article.
    • Check ignition system. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article.
    • Check for leaking EGR valve. Also, check EGR system operation. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article.
    • Check evaporative emission system. See appropriate SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING article.
    • Check engine compression pressure. See BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES - SEBRING COUPE & STRATUS COUPE article.
