Removal (Outer CV Boot)

  1. Remove axle shaft. See AXLE SHAFTS . Clamp axle shaft horizontally in vise with protected jaws. Remove both clamps from outer CV boot. See Figure. Remove CV boot from outer CV joint housing, and slide boot down axle shaft and away from CV joint.
  2. Wipe away grease to expose outer CV joint and axle shaft. For Sebring Convertible, go to next step. For all other models, remove outer CV joint from axle shaft by sharply hitting open end of CV joint housing with a soft-face hammer to dislodge internal circlip. Slide outer CV joint assembly off of axle shaft end. Remove large stop ring on axle shaft before removing CV boot. Remove CV boot.
  3. Spread CV joint retaining snap ring, located at axle shaft and CV joint. See Fig 1. Lightly tap on open end of the CV joint housing with a soft faced hammer to dislodge from axle shaft. Slide outer CV joint assembly off of axle shaft end and remove CV boot.
