Installation (Outer CV Boot)

  1. Slide small boot clamp and boot onto axle shaft. Align splines on axle shaft with splines on CV joint assembly, start CV joint onto axle shaft. Using soft-face hammer, tap end of stub axle (with nut installed onto end of CV joint), until CV joint assembly is seated fully onto axle shaft.
  2. On Sebring Convertible, CV joint retaining snap ring should be fully seated into groove on axle shaft. See Figure. On all other models, ensure CV joint inner race is seated against internal circlip on end of axle shaft.
  3. Using grease provided in CV boot service package, distribute 1/2 of grease into CV joint housing. DO NOT use any other type of grease. Place remaining grease into the CV boot. Position small end of CV boot over boot retaining groove on axle shaft. Ensure bead inside boot is seated into retaining groove.
  4. Slide small boot clamp evenly over boot. Crimp bridge of small boot clamp using Crimper (C-4975A). See Figure. Ensure boot is not dimpled, stretched or out of shape in any way. Position large end of CV boot onto retaining groove on CV joint housing. Slide large boot clamp evenly over boot. Crimp bridge of large boot clamp using Crimper (C-4975A).
